Flames of War German 8cm Mortar Platoon Unboxing

I nabbed this as part of a German Mid War project I’ve been working on for a while- I know, I know, this is the Late War box, but the difference in detail is so minimal at 15mm scale that it’s virtually unnoticeable to all but the biggest pedants. Also, the availability of Late War at the moment is far better than the seemingly erratic production of Mid War units. As usual I picked them up from Wayland Games, my go-to stockist for pretty much everything gaming-related.

Contents

There’s not too much to say about this set. It includes three sprues made from that odd bendy plastic of Battlefront’s. It’s not my favourite medium (I’d rather have them in hard plastic) but one of the benefits is that any pieces which are bent in transit can be remoulded into their proper shape by virtue of a quick dip in some warm water. There are also unit cards for a regular Mortar Section or Beach Defence Mortar Platoon and, of course, the necessary bases.

There are enough miniatures here to make a full platoon of 6 Mortar Teams, for a total of around 6 points for either Mid or Late War.

Summary

The Mortar Platoon is a decent little kit with utility for two different game periods over several theatres. It’s cheap too, which will allow you to get some decently-ranged smoke and artillery on the table at an affordable cost.
