Revisiting Old Malifaux Part 4: The Hanged M2E Unboxing

Box cover

Background

Although I’ve always had a soft spot for Malifaux’s Resurrectionists, The Hanged were never really something that I had taken particular notice of before. However, as a birthday gift, my wife somehow found out that I didn’t have a set (I’m still not sure how, as she’s never really shown much interest in my gaming habits), and so I was lucky enough to unwrap these – literal – bad boys on the morning of the day.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get much use out of them, as from my understanding they’re really designed to be played with a Jack Daw crew, one of the few Resser Masters I don’t own. Don’t think that this makes me ungrateful for them though, they certainly look like beautifully-rendered models, and Malifaux – for me at least – holds a definite “gotta catch ‘em all” compulsion.

As nobody who knows me will find surprising, these poor tormented souls have never seen their glory built and painted on the tabletop. In this instance though, I have what I believe to be a legitimate defence: all those ropes make them look insanely tricky to assemble, a prospect that I, even as a seasoned model builder of nearly 40 years, find a little intimidating. Also, the tiny connection points look like they’ll be fairly delicate, so the risk of post-assembly damage is another point against putting them together before I’ve worked out some reasonable storage (which looks increasingly more unlikely as the years pass!) Never mind, it’s still nice to have these sitting around, and one day they’ll get the treatment they deserve.

Contents

It’s a very small box with beautiful artwork, and inside is a single tiny sprue with both of the unlucky Hanged on it. There are also a pair of stat cards which are both identical except for the differentiation artwork and, of course, a pair of 30mm round lipped bases.

Summary

While these miniatures will doubtless look great on the tabletop, the fiddliness and delicacy of the figures mean they might not be for everyone. Still, I’m sure they’ll look fantastic as display pieces.
